Exam no-shows

In principle, if you do not show up to the exam, you will have used up one exam attempt. To avoid using up one exam attempt, you must provide a legitimate reason for failing to show up to the exam. See how you can document a legitimate reason for absence, and what is considered illegitimate absence. Read about the rules for failure to show up for an in-school exam, oral exam and at-home exam. If you have a student loan and grant from Lånekassen, you should check how your situation may change if you fail to show up for an exam.

Two types of no-show

We distinguish between two types of exam no-show If you have a legitimate reason for your absence, you will not use up one of your exam attempts. If you do not have a legitimate reason, you will use up one of your exam attempts.

Legitimate absence

If you have a legitimate reason for your absence, you will not use up one of your three exam attempts.

If you fall ill before you are due to sit your exam, or have a compelling reason for your absence, you must document the reason for your absence by means of a medical certificate, or similar proof, by the specified deadline.

The documentation must be dated and state which exam you should have taken and the exam date.

You must submit the documentation no later than 7 days after the exam date.

Log into your digital mailbox and send the documentation to the NPUC’s digital mailbox. (See the information on how to use digital mailboxes further down this page.)

You are entitled to reregister to take the exam. Remember to reregister to take the exam by the specified deadline. The exam will normally be held again the following semester.

No legitimate absence

If you do not have a legitimate reason for your absence, you will use up one of your exam attempts.

Your absence will be deemed illegitimate if you do not submit documentation within the deadline (7 days after the exam date), fail to show up for the exam, or arrive too late at the exam site.

If you have more remaining exam attempts, you can reregister to take the exam . Remember the exam registration deadline. The exam will normally be held again the following semester.

Illness during in-school, at-home and oral exams

Read more about what happens if you fall ill after an exam has commenced. We distinguish between three types of exam.

Illness during in-school exams

If you have already presented yourself to take the exam, but fall ill during the exam period, you can choose to withdraw from the exam or submit what you have managed to write so far. If you choose to withdraw from the exam, you must contact one of the exam invigilators. You must also sign to confirm you are withdrawing from the exam. In that case, you must not submit any exam response. Obtain documentation See the section on “Legitimate absence”.

Illness during oral exams

If you fall ill on the day you are due to take an oral exam, or know a few days before that you will not recover enough to take the exam, you can send an e-mail to your local campus administration informing them that you are ill. Obtain documentation. See the section on “Legitimate absence”.

Illness during at-home exams

We do not grant an extended deadline if you fall ill during an at-home exam.

If you fall ill before or during the day of the exam, it is important that you do not submit an exam response. Obtain documentation that you are ill. See the section on “Legitimate absence”. You must take the exam the following semester or the next time the exam is held.

Use of digital mailboxes

When sending messages from your digital mailbox by means of a mobile phone or tablet, you must log into Digipost via your browser. Do not use the app.

When you are logged in to your digital mailbox, you must select the recipient. Start by typing Pol... The name Politihøgskolen (NPUC) will come up as a suggestion.

When you have sent a message to us via Digipost, you will not receive an automated confirmation that we have received it. However, you can check the “sent” folder to see that you have sent something to NPUC.

Norway Post supplies the Digipost solution .
